This painting is more geometric than many of the others in the series and the layering of elements is at an all-time high here. It is also more colorful, with warm tones in the top third and cool blues dipping into the deep shadows. The top third shows the rusty ghost signs around the top of the building with faint letters visible. The architectural forms of this building are outstanding and innovative to me. The columns interrupted by blocks get me every time, although they are not nearly as visible on the actual building. The Moroccan motif in copper leaf is strong yet elegant. The subject of the work is the Tower Theatre, designed by S. Charles Lee. It's a fantastic structure! His designs were height of fantasy and style. Ink, bleach, acrylic, copper leaf, on linen. 48" x 36". This piece is painted in mixed media on a coarse weave linen ground, stretched over a wood panel. The variety of materials enhance and obscure the texture of the linen, much of which is left exposed, creating a unique surface that shifts in changing light. The linen wraps the edges of the panel.
