Aurora Australis Collage

This artwork is inspired by the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights visible from the south of Tasmania. The colours of the lights depend on the chemicals in the atmosphere when hit by electrons from the solar system. Oxygen gives off green/yellow colours while nitrogen sometimes causes pink. The shadow outline of the landscape is visible beneath the spray of colours creating negative space but it is the sky above, an often-overlooked landscape, that draws attention. Canvas size 36" x 24" (92cm x 61cm) + raw timber canvas frame. Wire on reverse, ready to hang. Each work is original and unique. No reproduction prints are available.
