"Paper Money I" Collage

This piece was part of series titled "Old Stories" which conveyed stories that have been passed down in my family through the generation. This pieces uses Sears Roebuck catalogs from the early 1900's and copied German Reichsmarks that are cut into quilt patterns. My father immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 from Lithuania, which was being over taken by the Russians during WWII. He told me how the Reichsmark was over printed to the point that is became worthless. People were known to use it to wallpaper their homes and to burn it in the furnace to keep warm in the cold winters.
