∆ A Brief Foray It takes a certain kind of big yellow sky to swallow us whole. And venturing out into the light, the darkness, the liminal space between dusk and then not, takes a particular sort of bravery, one borne from many collisions and rocks back and forth. Drawing from several artistic expressions from the past, including impressionism with a splash of surrealism and a dash of arte povera, yet keeping in mind my own mind throughout, this piece expresses the violence of mutiny from the inside mixed with the sly glance of an approaching glow. _________ Part of the ‘Sea Series’ series, this work was made with multiple layers of collage, applied over and over each other again and again, with small bits of paint mixed in. This gives it a very moving, flowing feel. ∆

ART, LIKE LIFE, HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT. A whiff of control; some semblance of steering. And belief of a firm grip. But we're grasping at the air beneath our feet. The truth is: we don't hold anything. It comes in bits and bobs, dashes and jots - brief glimpses, spaces, sliding out of sight. For truth, is to feel it slip away. And then to try to create it. - - - Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, & often both, my art reflects the intersection between logic and intuition, real and abstract, time and the timeless. - - - - - - - - - Steven Tannenbaum grew up in New Jersey, where he learned how to garden and defend himself. He now lives in Portland, Oregon, and his art is in public & private collections across the US, Israel, and England. You can find more of his work at: www.whatifind.com
