About The Artwork

Inspiration A memory captured in time "Signs of the times" in which I am living through. This collage painting was created in response to the coronavirus pandemic, civil unrest and political issues, this is all captured in the newspapers of that time. I cut out these newspaper images and assembled them onto the canvas. For me newspapers present a memory of the times we live in but it also provokes images and words to grab the readers attention. In some ways it is chaotic and full of different kinds of human behaviour and emotions. I then created this circle with a black on the outside to pull the eye into the space. Its also a signal of belief, or way of crossing over into another space or time. I was thinking that perhaps I should add more layers of colour to the surface but I realised I liked the simplicity. Information about this artwork Medium: Collage of newspaper-cutouts, white gloss paint, gloss, acrylic paint on canvas. Dimensions: H80 W80 D3.7cm Created: 13/7/2020 Ready to hang, intended to be displayed indoors only. Original collage painting, signed on the back, includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

I am a multimedia artist based in Somerset UK creating ceramic sculpture and painting. Why do I create art? Through art, I am able to step back and breathe in the beauty of exploration and self-discovery. Art provides me the freedom to explore my human potential and my desire to keep learning about myself and the world around me. What inspires me? The ancient monument Stonehenge, located not too far away from my studio, serves as a constant source of inspiration. The towering stones beckon me to question the mysteries of, belief, spirituality, time, space, the nature of reality, society and the human experience. What is my Art? I channel these ideas into my art. The results are unique and quirky, colourful, vibrant with a hint of depth, engineered with attention to detail, a study of the effects of form, colour and light. It is Abstract and Surreal, reflecting the world we inhabit and partly escaping it. When it comes to materials I don’t like to limit myself. For my sculptures I use a verity of clays, vibrant colours and glossy glazes. My paintings uncover an amalgamation newspaper, colourful oozing acrylic paints, reflective varnished surfaces and unconventional household paints. The sky is the limit! My Mission? My mission is to create art that can enhance, add value and uniqueness to any space or home. I would like it to transport you to a place of curiosity and imagination.
