About The Artwork

"My recent body of work is a tribute to the beauty and fragility of nature, highlighting flowers and birds. This one is presenting the TUI, a native bird species from New Zealand. The series is titled “Alice’s Dream,” which is an offshoot of my previous series, “Alice’s Garden,” inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.” In the story, Alice dreams of a strange world in which some of her experiences occur in a whimsical garden. The compositions in “Alice’s Dream” were also influenced by the botanical illustrations of Margaret Mee, an outstanding botanist and artist whose paintings portrayed the flora and nature of the Brazilian Amazon with scientific rigour and great beauty. Her images sometimes present plants from different angles or focus on specific features. In “Alice’s Dream,” the arrangement of the figures on the pictorial plane appears unnaturally, evocative of Alice’s wild world. I also included minor, odd details in some drawings. Still, not all artwork of this series has this peculiarity, making the observer aware of this trick look carefully at each piece to discover. These artistic metaphors mean it may already be too late to stop destroying the planet. With this series, I add to the countless warnings that remind us of the fundamental importance of preserving our natural world; I sincerely hope it inspires people to appreciate nature and take immediate action to protect it.” Digital art: Developing digital art requires an artist to be familiar with the conventional principles of art, such as composition, colour, and drawing, and integrate them into other specific expertise, like image editing software. This is not a detour or a way to simplify things, but rather an accumulation of knowledge. A buildup of skills is necessary just to produce a single piece of digital art that is that is cohesive, intentional, and impactful.

ANNE LOPES (born 1966 in Mirassol, Brazil) Since 2018, I have lived and worked in Auckland, New Zealand. I graduated in Law, but I never identified a single particle in me that would make me pursue this career. As soon as my eldest daughter was born in 1990, I started to seek knowledge in painting and visual arts in general, participating in several courses with private teachers and also in schools and universities. My works began to be recognized, and at that time, I established partnerships with several art galleries in Brazil as a professional artist. Soon after, I founded my art gallery, a reason that took me away from painting in 2011. This period of intense studies to better understand contemporary visual art is one of the things that interests me the most. However, I am so passionate about making and creating art myself that I found a way to reconcile the two works. Subjects that interest me today are human conscience and its relations with our planet and my own personal issues, such as my health.
