About The Artwork
A black & white portrait of a man from his profile painted on a broken handmade porcelain shard. The drawing is made with ceramic colors called Angobs, and all the piece is fired in ceramic kiln to 1200° C. The figure is from Leonardo De Vinchi's skatches. The small drawing made in intimacy with the figure and the clay bedding in my palm invites the viewer to take a close look and reflect on the open mouth. Is he screaming, yawning or just open. Ayelet Zer Sheinboim ceramic artist . In my work I use fractions of vases (shards) which I paint and print on them images that I take from my old family albums, landscape photographs and drawings of admired artists. I deal with issues of memory and belonging to different groups (like family, womanhood…). Working on small scale, holding the broken piece in my hand and painting or printing on it make me feel very intimate with my work and I hope that this feeling will pass to the viewer.
