About The Artwork
This is a preparatory drawing for an oil portrait painting of model Astrid, an artist and choreographer. The intimacy that the portrait conveys is partly generated by the fact that the model was posing for a nude figure session, the choice to focus on her elegant gesture with her head gently turned looking away in a dreamlike state. The choice of the medium really was due to what I had at hand because I was planning to do an 'alla prima' oil painting and I decided to add this drawing phase, so here we have a watercolor paper with graphite pencil and red chalk.
