About The Artwork

This is a drawing (self-portrait) titled “Blur The Border, Not. 3”. “Blur The Line, Not” We all have, within ourselves, a border between good and bad. Good and evil, light and shadow. To others’ eyes good maybe bad and evil maybe good. But we cannot ignore the border within in order to stand by our beliefs. I am doing quick self-portraits in this specific time period, aside my window progress, to give myself a chance to self-reflect, and to suggest each of you to do the same. What is really important in all matters and activities and incidents happening around us is that each of us learn about ourselves, what we are, who we are, where we came from, who we are today, who we want to live as. I am using a mirror image of myself to make those self-portraits, inspired by the looting and rioting, graffitis of words on someone’s buildings, protests that went violent, and many more. It is difficult to change the government or system-ed society in just one day, but we can do it for ourselves if we wanted to, and that is the key for us to really change the matter, any matter in our community that we want to see the change. That is John Lennon and Ono Yoko meant in their War Is Over piece too. I offer these drawings of self-portrait and paintings of my self-portrait affordable at affordable price to those who would like to collect my work, also until ending of August 2020, I will donate 10% of the sales to the organization, Suicide Prevention Lifeline. If you are interested please consider to have them as your new collection. There might be no definite line to others as a mass, in the end, but we as individuals, we do have lines and borders within us that we can guide us to be who we want to live as. But to find such borders within ourselves, to make such borders to be bolder, we do need to learn ourselves. The borders I am speaking of is not between you and outside, nor you and other people, it is of within yourself. That is what I think an answer to the world, to make it "better" what we imagine and share, and describe with such vague word. I always say there is no one answer in this world that is just and one and only, but if I give one, to make it better.

Natsumi Goldfish is a Japanese visual artist and a painter born and raised in the suburban area of Tokyo, Japan. It was a place of between, where nature and urban culture and many different elements coexisted at that time. The environment had inspired her to believe in pluralism, or something close to the idea of being between and both. In 2013, Natsumi Goldfish received her BA in Art degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. Natsumi has been fundamentally interested in human being: human nature: what defines human as human: conscious and unconscious human behaviors seen in the history, in people who relate to her in various ways, as well as in herself in her everyday life. Natsumi’s works are created around ideas and questions she encountered while seeking answer to the question "what is human being", and the differences between human and other creatures. In 2017, Natsumi Goldfish had a solo exhibition in Koganei, Tokyo, and in 2018 two small solo exhibitions in New York City, and has been also selected in multiple group exhibitions in Tokyo, Philadelphia, and New York City. In 2010 she received the New Artist of The Year Awards, from Temple University Japan Campus. In 2018, her painting was featured in Alex Inc. (START UP), Pilot Painting, ABC TV Series. Today, Natsumi Goldfish lives and works in New York City. For a commission, and for any other inquiries, Please contact her at info@natsumigoldfish.com
