About The Artwork

The Fender Identities series combines gender shapes with car names: specifically found restroom pictograms with automobile makes, models and/or package names. Depending on the combinations, the work can be deliberately sexist (Fox, Cougar, Limited), mildly incriminating (Scamp, Swinger, Cruiser), and relatively neutral (Diplomat, Monarch, Scout). The series is intended as a means to humorously address issues of sexism and identity. The restroom pictograms were documented from around the world and reproduced in the studio. Hundreds of car plaques have been collected from salvage yards. Each Fender Identity is unique and produced by making rubbings using different colored wax-oils on paper.
