I have a passion for natural history museums and the city of Berlin happens to have a great museum for this particular field. Few years ago I visited a wonderful exhibition about birds and flying. I fell immediately in love with the topic and I still am. I plan to make more works about birds, and to include this very special animal in more paintings and drawing of mine. In most of my works there is a sort of "spiritual" interest for the subject and this happens with birds too. In ancient times birds were thought to able to fly up to gods and bring them your messages. This is idea has fascinated me for the past three years, but not only. The fragility of this very particular animal, its complex but thin structure, the patterns of the colors, and the feeling that they are so impossible to catch, are also aspects that somehow touch me in soul. I think somehow artists are also like birds, they need a certain amount of space and freedom to breath and survive. I have made many studios for birds. Most of them I never showed. Sometimes I loose myself in the pattern of their wings, which becomes a labyrinth I am lost in. I wanted to post this example, which is a piece made on rise japanese paper. This kind of paper is particularly delicate and has a wonderful white transparent pattern itself (which unfortunately is almost impossible to reproduce in a photo).
