About The Artwork

Galatea is a character from the greek mythology. She is the work of the sculptor Pygmalion, who forms her after the idea of the perfect woman. She is at last given live by the power of Venus. My drawing began from a selfie of a friend of mine. I appreciate the vivid ambivalence in the gesture of the woman. Its not sure whether she wants to hide from being seen or from what she is seeing. From this point I started to create the picture as a metaphorical story about getting to know someone: From eye-contact as direct form of contact, symbolised by the eye and the realistic parts of the face, to pure imagination, symbolised by the pure geometrical construction. The picture is mainly a flat drawing on paper, except the eye and the right breast. They are made with nailpolish and are therefore slightly raised. Thats why the picture can't be rolled and packed in a tube. It is framed in an aluminium-made frame, with passepartout and covered with flute glass. The frame-colour is champagne, the size 60x80cm. The drawing itself is 50x70cm.

I am a self-taught artist from Munich, Germany. During the last Years I was mostly drawing on paper, creating more or less minimalistic, graphically precise drawings of erotic scenes and nudes. Many of my drawings are mixed-media drawings, where I use pencil, fineliner, copicmarker, paintmarker and sometimes other materials. Clear lines and distinct contrasts are often paired with subtle, tender microstructures. My Style is very much influenced by graffiti-writing and its expressive lines, and by classical and contemporary surrealism.
