About The Artwork

‘Head of the River’ is a visual story about rowing and the title refers to rowing regattas. In ‘Head of the River’ each image symbolises an aspect of rowing. Equipment such as the oars has changed in materials and shape as scientific knowledge has found its way into rowing. Before the glory, lots of coaching and training on land and in the water has to be completed. It is important to be well prepared, especially in Queensland's summer. This all culminates in the ‘Head of the River competition when every team hopes that their bow ball is first over the finishing line. This painting comes with an external frame and is ready to hang Signed on the front and signed certificate of authenticity.

Andrea Moser is a visual storyteller who uses the power of the visual image to ignite imaginations, evoke emotions and capture universal cultural truths and aspirations. She is combining a unique technique with story-driven content to create iconic works which encourage discussion and get us to think about the content. Andrea grew up in Europe and moved as an adult to Australia. The experience of two cultures made her realise that perspectives and meanings have evolved over time based on our cultural background, experiences, beliefs and values. She is intrigued by these differences and uses them for inspiration in her art. The emphasis is to grow mutual understanding and respect for different perspectives and opinions. Her art is promoting tolerance and diversity to enhance cultural connections through understanding. Her art depicts diverse themes such as fauna and flora, fashion and luxury items, food and drink, cities and suburbs. The common thread between these themes is that they have diverse meanings or symbolic values and different people have different relationships to these themes. The 2000-year-old encaustic medium is her chosen paint medium because she likes to challenge the preconceived views of this ancient technique and uses it in a contemporary way. She is combining this ancient medium with contemporary techniques such as pen drawings, gilding and oil paints to create mixed media paintings.
