About The Artwork

I Munacielli is a work created in 2005 and depicts the ghost that in the Neapolitan translation lives in old houses. The Munaciello when he is benign is dressed in white, and protects the family living in the house with gifts in coins found in the pockets of their clothes. When he is malicious he dresses in red and makes money disappear and causes small accidents and frightens the people who live in the house that hosts them. The origins of this myth are of various origins and refer to Neapolitan popular traditions rich in symbolism, superstitions and magic. The work is part of the research that the artist has done on the culture and history of his cities. The work is made in mixed media on paper applied on a plywood board, cm. 131.5 x 35.
