The Melodic Minor series is a group of works about the growth of a lush, exotic and dense environment filled with abstracted hints from gardens and woods. As if I am creating a fluid and expressive kind of nature that thrives in a contemporary urban world. I have taken shapes from the leaves, flowers and trees around me and blended them with visual 'musical tones' that are moody, romantic and emotionally charged. This work is textural with countless layers and this visual 'history' where the drawing has been worked again and again. I've always loved this kind of visual track (like an animal paw print) where you get to see part of the mark making history - the erasures, the edits and modifications. One of my favorite pieces is "Erased deKooning Drawing" which is probably going to make a lot of collectors laugh...there's something fascinating to me about the idea of where the drawing has been to finally get to me, my eyes and yours.
