About The Artwork

Title: Memory Sculpture: Zwei Gedichte aus einem Mund (Two Poems from One Mouth) Size: 29,7 x 40 cm / 11.7“ x 15.7“ This work is part of the exhibition #honigaugenblick (together with AnaMaria Heigl and Marion Steinfellner) at Galerie am Park in Vienna 2022. As a follow-up to the exhibition, the work was created during my stay at the #Nietzsche Archive in #Weimar. The work deals with Apollina Smaragd's opening speech at the gallery and is dedicated to her. Memory Sculpture works are process-oriented, the aim is to create spaces for reflection and encounter during the act of drawing. The drawings feature a recurring set of symbols arranged in novel compositions. Every symbol carries a distinct meaning, and their new combinations give rise to novel layers of significance. This work is signed on the reverse and provided with a work stamp as well as an artist stamp with information about the materials, year of creation, title, size etc.

Mersolis Schöne is a German Artist, Film Director, and Researcher based in Vienna, Austria. He is a member of Künstlerhaus Wien in Austria, The Professional Association of Visual Artists in Germany, and other associations. His works "Memory Sculptures" (Gedächtnisskulpturen) presented at Saatchi Art are based on a symbol-language. The displayed drawings act as thinking tools to design an internal architecture of sculptural memory. Have you ever thought about what our lives would be like if we treated our memories like sculptures? That's the question at the heart of the "Memory Sculpture" ("Gedächtnisskulptur") concept. The process of creation varies, on the one hand there are interactive performative settings in exchange with other artists (e.g. from the fields of music, literature, film, performance), where the works are created during the performative exchange. On the other hand, there are clearly defined symbol formations that are developed over months and years.
