This mysterious charcoal drawing depicts three pups who tote wooden toy guns and don newspaper caps with famous war photography and violent passages from holy scriptures. In onerous detail, the passages are scrawled in three major written languages used by combative parties and their holy books during the Crusades (Arabic, Hebrew, Latin). The title "Milk and Honey" refers to Jerusalem, the disputed holy land. Consistent with other works by the artist in depicting furry figures in a youthful state of predevelopment, it is also unique in vision, referencing historical/ cultural events to allude to subliminal metaphorical content. The work is on a high quality, 100% cotton paper with an elegant, raw, deckled edge.

Davis McLane Connelly is an emerging artist whose realistic, highly textured drawings often contain a playful and surreal surface narrative, with a visual subtext based on internal conflict, subconscious psychic growth, and the construction of semantics. Davis holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology (2004) from SUNY Cortland, and attended residencies in Drawing and Painting in Corciano, Italy (2006), and the Chautauqua Institution (2007). He is currently developing educational programs and partnerships to benefit youth in public and charter schools as a Senior Director for a youth non-profit in four of New York's boroughs. While his academic training in the field of psychology is an evident influence in his work, Davis is also a noted scholar in unexpected arenas such as archetypes in mythology and horror cinema, such as Joseph Campbell’s stages of monomyth and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining. He currently resides and works in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where he evenly commits his time to his research, studio work and youth programs.
