About The Artwork

Baobabs have always fascinated me. On numerous trips to northern South Africa and Zimbabwe I have been lucky enough to see some of the best of these giants. Known as the Upside-down tree or Cream-of-Tartar tree it is said to have many magical qualities. Local folklore abounds around this Isimuku (Zulu name for the tree). This particular tree is in Musina, northern Limpopo and is a popular tourist stop. The map of Africa was totally by accident!!

I painted my first real picture when I was 16. Since then my long-term affair with art has grown and the passion has never waivered. I have been lucky enough on many occasions to combine work and painting - being artist and gallery designer at the Albany Museum in Grahamstown, South Africa, for several years was a very rewarding experience for me and now my experience in digital graphic design provides another avenue for creativity. I have worked widely as an illustrator and designer, and as a self-taught artist, have held numerous private solo exhibitions of watercolours, acrylics and pen sketches and have sold over 240 works. Now that I live in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal and have semi retired, I have more time to devote to my painting. I have been inspired by the beautiful rolling landscape with its old trees, moody skies and in-your-face green of the countryside!! There is an unlimited supply of visual inspiration! I have added oils to my repertoire of mediums and enjoy the freedom and versatility it affords me for my varied subjects. My love for trees (especially those in the Kruger National Park) is unwavering. I grow trees, I paint trees and sketch trees!!
