Numerology number One Drawing

Part of a series of drawings that arose form research into Numerology. The research gave monumentality to the representation of Arabic numbers for me. The drawing started as lino cut prints on paper, reversed and repeated to fill four cubic areas. Then I worked in layers of chalks, charcoals, water based paints and coloured pencils. So the process was repetitive and 'countable' for me, actually working in a conscious numerical way, building layers of drawing. It was important to trace the development of the drawing, as veils of colour exposed the colours underneath. This also gave a more architectural and monumental feel to the drawing. I hope viewers will contemplate our prosaic use of numbers in every-day communications as something with a deeper original meaning; something to wonder at
