About The Artwork

This piece is a live study of my surroundings, featuring the first vase I'd ever bought myself with flowers, my film camera, and the large tub I use for painting. The canvas originally had a painting from the 1980s, but I was inspired by Pablo Picasso's ethical behaviour to cover up old paintings and draw on them instead. The dried oil on canvas resulted in a heavily textured background, and the light layers of gesso allowed it to show through, creating depth in the overall image.
