About The Artwork

This was inspired by the hills in my surrounding landscape in the South Downs National Park and the intricate patterns and shapes found hidden in nature. I love using colour to help lift the mood in a room and sell my art in white frames to offer a seamless wall mount without distracting from the colour of the piece. My drawings are often unplanned, I draw upon memories of patterns and shapes I've seen in nature, letting the direction form organically, allowing my mind time to wander and inspiration to influence my choice of colour and shape. I find the repetitive flow of drawing strings of cell like shapes calming and the perfect antidote to the stresses of life. I was first influenced to draw in cell like shapes after discovering artwork by Ernst Haeckel in 2018. This led to a deep dive into looking at images of microscopic sea life and micrographs of plant cells. I was fascinated by the intricate patterns and shapes hidden to the naked eye. These have now become a subconscious influence in all my work, combined with inspiration I find while exploring my natural environment specifically local forests, heathland and beaches. I’m also interested in the similarities of natures patterns in all forms and dimensions from micrographs of plant cells to areal images of the worlds surface.
