Inspiration: it wasn’t just the visual aspect of the urban architecture that fascinated me. City is more than just buildings and structures coherently and rationally put together purely for functional, economical and aesthetic satisfaction. Each building in urban settings were erected as a statement of pride, economy and power. Some try to integrate, some dominate and some contradict the overall environment. However all structures positioned “democratically” long the street line to forcibly interact each other and by that creat the actual urban architecture. In between spaces that were mostly meant for service and fire escape contain enormous potential and in a peculiar way represent “secret relationship” or should I say “secret affair” with buildings that are completely different in nature, architecture and economics, yet they are much warmer, humane and complementary to each other. Approach: it is an attempt to “translate” or materialize the conversation for which traditional technique is not suitable. Although architecture and visual/proportional aspect is important, the time of construction and its historical aspect is very important as by using contemporary materials and techniques I overlay another chronological layer over and in between buildings. It is also intended to redirect or create new conversation, interaction and relationship between building, showing the modern trace over the buildings. It is several steps back from architecture and purely concentrated on emotional aspect of the space, abstract decision and reorganization of the space by graphic and three dimensional materials. Although being architectural tools, Transparency and texture also were utilized for emphasizing gestures and motion. Light also becomes important factor and part of the work and design material. The artwork consists of four pieces, four studies of in-between spaces. Photography reference: Flood Building was built in 1904 and rebuilt in 1907 after Great Earthquake of San Francisco. It is located in shopping district of San Francisco on Market Street. It represents great significance in Architecture of San Francisco because of its Beaux Art style being first in the city. The Architect is Albert Pissis, a representative of Beaux-Art style in Architecture.

Drawing and sketching has always been a tool of understanding and observation. I've always found sketches and studies more explanatory, rather intimate, truthful and engaging. To me it tells more about the subject, artists personality and he(s)r view. It brings the artist to the ordinary human level and engages the viewer into a private conversation... so I thought.... ...why not!... ...why wouldn't I tell the whole story?... why wouldn't I show them all I think of the subject?... why wouldn't I engage them into a provocative conversation, ask them questions and let them ask their own questions?... ...for me the process is more important... ...it's the story behind the scenes that everybody is eager to know by nature and I think that's beautiful. Being an Architect by training sketching has been a thinking and communication tool for me and my drawing/sketching technique is rather architectural, layer-by-layer. ...why ballet... ...this was unintentional. I never thought of ballet for sketching... ...but... ... My daughter was taking ballet since she was 6. I also involved and interested in ballet and when two or more things live in one person they eventually engage: that's a fact and it has to find its form of manifestation Dying Swan drawing was used in Blick Art Store advertisement and was published in the back of the Drawing magazine as well as in Blick charcoal paper pad cover. I also was the winner of ABT Logo contest for Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. /www.facebook.com/hogtolouso
