About The Artwork

'Synchronicity' is from a series of drawings Marisa Rappard continues to work on depicting a mesmerizing stream of ink hatchings that hide a ground layer of acrylic paint. The series is inspired by the endless, dense and fast stream of information on the internet, of which you can often not ascertain what is true and what is not. By repeating lines Rappard creates dense patches that collide, together forming an image meandering between figuration and abstraction. 'Synchronicity' is a recent work from this series. It measures 238 x 298 cm. and was made in 2019. Though the image is abstract the repetitions of black lines in different shapes and forms suggest multiple horizons of landscapes varying in size, that appear to exist simultaneously. It appears the viewer can choose an horizon to enter the world of peaceful coloures that lies behind it and is hidden.
