About The Artwork
Ink, marker and Faber-Castell Gelato pigment sticks on paper. The Gelato pigments were slathered on like crayon, then spread with water to give a glittery watercolor effect. I came up with the title while riding in a car during sundown. The Los Angeles sun has been especially harsh during the heat wave we endured in September 2022. Its light seemed to be getting brighter and felt hotter as the heat wave continued for those few grueling weeks. I imagined going blind from exposure to the sun, and ultimately seeing nothing but faint sparks of gold in darkness.
