TimeLapse; Charcoal fixed onto gesso board by Laura Williams (2017)
Over the years I’ve experimented and developed an understanding of using my body to make marks in a series of drawings. I call these my Bodyprint drawings. I began this journey in the early days of my degree (1998) and is a process that addresses skin, touch, the body and surface.

I prepare the surface with charcoal using a process that is like preparing a plate for printmaking, then using my body I lift the charcoal to reveal the impression. Sometimes I draw into the marks made or make further impressions more selectively to emphasise an idea found. I work in a variety of scales which allow me to experiment with my whole body.

The work is carefully prepared and finished, however the marks are immediate, and the process brings a certain element of surprise and reflection.
