About The Artwork

In the heart of Cape Town, amidst the tumultuous symphony of chaos and strife, lies a canvas painted with hues of struggle and resilience. Gangsters roam the alleys, shadows dance with violence, and corruption casts its long shadow over the streets. Yet, amid this cacophony, there exists a silent yearning for tranquility, a desire to escape into the gentle strokes of beauty. Here, where the air is thick with the scent of uncertainty, where every heartbeat echoes with the rhythm of division, one finds solace in the delicate dance of the cude panda. Amidst the noise of social media, amidst the whirlwind of tweets and shares, there exists a sanctuary of innocence and simplicity. In a world where hate threatens to consume, where poverty gnaws at the fabric of society, the cude panda emerges as a beacon of hope, a reminder of the purity that lies within us all. Through the lens of art and expression, we find refuge from the storm, we find unity amidst the chaos. So let us not turn a blind eye to the troubles that plague our city, but let us also not forget the power of art to heal, to inspire, to unite. For in the juxtaposition of darkness and light, of despair and joy, lies the essence of our humanity, waiting to be discovered, waiting to be celebrated.

My Pencil drawings are highly detailed and complex graphic works of a sensitive nature. Juxtaposed, closely observed scenes of life in Cape Town. These works are controversial and provocative, often poignant, a little intriguing and quite emotive. Each drawing tells it’s own tale. My inspiration, as an artist is from a variety of truly, original local heroes that tell exciting visual stories of contrast and contradiction found in the environment around me. Cape Town is known for it’s bright colour and even brighter characters. Black & white are the colours I choose as they have given this land its unique diverse history. Storytelling is a predominant thread throughout my contemporary work. I call it Cape Town Stories.
