About The Artwork

This installation belongs to the series "Nothing New Under The Sky?" and it was carried out, with multiple sets (700) of aluminum wire placed on the wall of the exhibition room. At some point I needed to act out death; the end of a cycle and the passage to another, unknown. Then came the idea of creating a “portal” in the shape of a large circle on the wall with hairs. This situation seemed interesting to me since it assumed that there was something invisible, but alive, inside the wall in such a way that its outgrowths became visible in contact with the air. Initially I had foreseen that the placement of the "hairs" would be done individually, one by one, which would also evoke a situation of halo or fog that covered the passage, but then I realize, that such construction was not possible given the short time of assembly of available (1 day). So I chose to create sets of 15 wires, which I placed on the wall after making the respective holes. The layout of the units was carried out in order to completely close the center of the circle, decreasing in density to its limits.

I am born in Lisbon in 1960 and I live and work in Palmela. My academic formation, was decisive for my work as a visual artist, once it gave me a better understanding of Space and its mutation in Time, as well as the desire for exploration and experimentation of new materials, I started to make exhibitions as a painter in 96. Over the years, I developed my work through visual and written research on contemporary art. In 2011, I abandoned painting, and I started to investigate human perception of visual elements, within the transparent bi dimensional supports. Now I'm looking for their relationship in sculpture. The main influences in my work, come from observation of nature ( mainly the human nature), the reading of philosophical authors, and a special friendship, with the painter Fernando Calhau. This association of factors in conjunction with intuition and experience, has transforme my first contents of work, in poetic thoughts of philosophical nature, formalize more and more in the sum of many subtractions.
