About The Artwork

TENSIONI ELASTICHE “ROSSO ROMA 01" is like the reliquary of an ancient “tensione elastica”, a large plexiglas display case that hosts the materic tension and becomes a screen; a sort of videostill sculpture encapsulated in a plexiglas box that transforms the work of art into a reflective work, a precious, sacred living work in the movement of the reflection of the image. The "Tensioni Elastiche Rosso Roma" series is characterized by the use of the "ancient red", the red of ancient Rome. What makes this collection very special and different from the other elastic tensions is its strong installation character, inheritance of the video roots from where the research of the Elastic Group comes.

Elastic Group of Artistic Research is an Italian/Spanish group of artists established in 1999 by Alexandro Ladaga and Silvia Manteiga. Their work is characterized by strong conceptual aspects that evolve from a deep analysis of the world around them. What stands out in their approach is their use and commentary in relation to technology which has been key to the evolution of their work. They have developed critical interpretations in relation to modernity and to its multiple aspects. As Duchamp stated: “Art makes the public,” so one can see in their work an extreme attention towards the reciprocity of the rapport between the artistic product and the spectator, in which the viewer often becomes thoroughly involved in an interactive relationship in which the video installation transforms the spectator into an integral part of the work of art. Elastic Group of Artistic Research is internationally recognized for his work in video/installation/public art and conceptual/abstract painting. Recently they have transformed their research from the immaterial image of video to the physicality of matter in the new series of abstract paintings "Tensioni Elastiche” (Elastic Tensions) in which they develop matter in the sense of Aristoteles. The ELASTIC Group are both artists and theorists and they have written a book on the rapport between public art and new technologies: “Moving Layers: Contextual video in art & architecture” (2014) and they are authors also of “127kBdiarte, pensare l'arte in rete” (2015). Their work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in the United States, Europe and Asia and is part of numerous private, public, and corporate collections. They have partecipated in numerous biennials as La Biennale di Venezia, Bienal de La Habana, Biennial of Media Art Rijeka, Istambul Web Biennial, Quadriennale di Roma, Biennale di Video fotografia di Alessandria, Biennale Adriatica di Arti Nuove, San Benedetto del Tronto, Biennale di Urban Design di Bologna. They have been awarded with residencies at The World Institute for Advanced Phenomenological Research and Learning, Columbia University, New York, University for Humanist Studies, Utrecht, Holland, The Royal Spanish Accademy at Rome, Casa de Velàzquez, Madrid, Exposicion Universal de Sevilla, Art & Science, Vardo Foundation, Stockholm-Gotland,Sweden, The Kitchen, New York, Fine Art Accademy of Carrara, Museum Quartier, Vienna, Teatro Nacional San Joao, Oporto.
