Installation Framed collage, framed image, methacrylate box In December 2016, I found by chance an edition of the “Critique of Pure Reason”, a book published by Immanuel Kant in 1781. It was a two-volume Spanish edition published in 1934 whose old pages hid several love letters typed in English by a woman called Alice in 1953 and addressed to a man called Joaquín. Although these letters only show a single point of view, they seem to describe a relationship destined to endure even if a gulf opened up between them. The years that went by between 1934 –the year in which this edition of Kant’s work was published– and 1953 –the year in which the letters were written– are precisely those included in the Dylan Thomas’ poetic anthology that I have in my library. I decided to reproduce some significant verses of this anthology and rewrote them using –literally– Alice’s words so that spectators could give them a new meaning.
