About The Artwork

I always get excited when I see a streetcar, especially one that is promising an adventure! Although I’m a city girl at heart, when I look back at my memories of our trip to New Zealand, the overwhelming beauty of the natural world is the first thing that comes to mind. Out of over 5000 photographs only a handful had people in them, so this dude is a rare specimen indeed. This painting embodies that excited anticipation I feel when I get to explore a new city. My paintings help me to stay connected to the places I had to leave behind and I hope they will evoke similar memories for you and inspire you to reconnect to the beauty of the world around you. I want to help you relive happy memories of familiar places and inspire you to visit and explore destinations you would otherwise never have thought to visit. I invite you to be nostalgic with me and (re)-discover the world through my eyes. These pieces convey the heart and soul of the city, I am fascinated by the urban landscape and the people that populate it. I love that unique viewpoint you have as a traveler, you start noticing the most mundane, everyday objects. These essential elements make up the living, breathing and evolving ecosystem of a city. In my work I combine my love of photography, painting and travel. I merge many photographs into a singular image that, at first glance, reflects reality, but there is a little mystery there. I encourage you to explore, let your mind wander and your imagination run free!

Leaving the Netherlands was a breeze. Japan didn’t scare me, America didn’t intimidate and Canada is as easy-going as it gets. The thing that frightens me, is creating Art. For the longest time, I believed I was the master of my craft. I strode into my studio with confidence to create bodies of work like Traveling the World and World on Washi. In my bubble, I reigned supreme. Then, one day I realized that the spaces I thought I controlled were fortified by the perceived expectations of the people around me. Their silent influence spawned countless rules, suffocating the artist within. It dawned on me—I shouldn't be making the rules at all. I have been creating Art for a decade and a half, and right now my studio in Canada is the most terrifying and exhilarating place to be. Inside, the Art decides the destination, where it leads I will follow. An old man once told me: “It’s dangerous to go alone!” So, will you join me on this quest? Together we will explore ‘Unveiling’ a boundless realm of vibrant hues and delicate textures. Step into my world, explore my art and meet the versions of myself I once knew. Let's embark on an adventure of discovery.
