About The Artwork
"La Main au Collet" is a paintography that shows a naked couple in an ambiguous attitude: not quite side by side, not quite facing each other, the two characters are standing, glued together, with the man putting his hand to the woman's neck (hence the title of the painting, "collet" being another word for "collar" or "neck") in a gesture that can be either a caress or a threatening gesture. Did the man get hold of a thief to arrest her? (Hitchcock's film "La Main au Collet" is called "To Catch a Thief" in English) Is he in a moment of passion, suggested by the red tone of the painting, and is he about to strangle his lover? to kiss her? This painting is a unique piece produced in a mixed technique on canvas and a mixture of photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (glazing and colored squares in relief). It is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 84 x 84 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
