About The Artwork

This series of prints comes from the same unique matrix where, from state to state, the engraved drawing evolves, transforms, intensifies, blossoms and disappears little by little like a water flower would wither from beauty. Based in part on scientific observation, supported by the research of Theodore Schwenk, a hydrodynamicist, these works speak of the movements of water and the pathways of blood in the body. It is a question of appearance/disappearance where the immobile is born of the mobile, of the instant that marks the matter. At the time of the interference of these waves - water/blood - of various lengths, appear motives, models, created by the pure movement; in their crossing, forms arise in space... the liquid element contains in advance the forms of movements which the living beings use to build their body. From these free observations and without preconceived ideas of the movement of the fluids, one feels that it is made a metamorphosis of the thought; this one becomes more capable to seize the living one. In Waters of the World series, the artist transformed the logic of engraving. Whereas engraving usually means a series of identical prints, in Waters of the worlds, Hélène Hibou introduces evolutions on the printing plate, then adds metal paper collages, for each and every piece of art, in order to create unique, graphically richer and richer, works of art. This results in a series of 33 unique engravings.

Hélène Hibou, visual artist. The movement and the stillness, the permanent and the fluctuating, the plant world, the water, the wind, the constellations ... In order to highlight the life that flows through these elements, Hélène Hibou chooses to experiment with a large variety of techniques: drawing, photography, printing, installations and carving. As an example, her work on the wind expresses a perpetual and unstable motion with large drawing landscapes (using pencils, ball-point pens, charcoals) sometimes associated with photographs and engraved elements. Water, sap, blood, juices, everything that flows and circulates in the plant and the living world is represented in the form of colorful circles, mandalas (engravings and collages) showing the flows that travel the world. Through her work, Hélène Hibou intends to show us the poetry that surrounds us and that we do not necessarily see: some condensation droplets running down a window and a strange landscape appears through the eye of the artist. After graduating in Fine-Arts and Art History studies, Helen Hibou is dedicated to the creation in a variety of areas: drawing, etching, unique illustrated books, installations in the city or in nature. In parallel to her artistic creation, Hélène Hibou is involved in artistic mediation projects with hospitalized children, primary schools in disadvantaged areas; she also offers art and science workshops at the Natural History Museum of Clermont-Ferrand, France. She has been regularly exhibiting her work for fifteen years
