To alleviate the brutality of death, we often speak of sleep, we say of a man who has just died: "He fell asleep ..." Here, this double portrait of a man and a woman is ambiguous: of the woman, one sees only the bare chest and the hands which entwine the face and the shoulder of the man who rests on his knees: gesture of death vigil or gesture of tender for the sleeping lover? Of the man we almost only see the face with closed eyes, a frozen, marmoreal face. But is it death or is it sleep? The hand and arm at the bottom of the painting are in an unnatural position for a lifeless man ... This painting is a unique piece made in mixed technique on canvas and combining photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (glaze and raised squares). It is framed in a black American box (total dimensions: approximately 32 x 32 x 3.5 cm)
