The composition of this painting mixes classic statuary (the reclining woman) and graffiti as it could have been tagged on a draped stone: dialogue between two eras, clash of cultures. We find typical elements of old vanities, with the skull symbolizing death or the posture of the model which evokes medieval recumbent figures, and contemporary details such as this famous surgical mask which marks the time of COVID and gives its title to the painting. An ambiguous title: "mask of death" can be the expression of one's face at the approach of death, a plaster cast as it was made to keep a memory of the deceased, or the sanitary mask which killed many social relationships. This painting is a one-of-a-kind piece made in mixed technique on canvas and mixing photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (transparent glazing and squares in relief). It is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 44 x 82 x 3.5 cm)

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 60 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
