About The Artwork

I started this silhouette of a girl back last year during our last session. It was a warm spring day in May and no one wanted to work. So, when someone suggested that we finish early and go to a pub together, people cheerfully agreed. That's how this sketch ended up unfinished. The other week I was in a rush, and looking through a folder of unfinished works, I found it and decided to draw something on top of it. That time a young man, not familiar to me, was posing, very similar to Michelangelo's David, and his pose was similar. The result appeared to be such a double portrait. Already finishing the work in the studio, I supplemented the drawing with a hand studio, which balanced the composition and gave it a finished look. The drawing was sketched from real model in class. This is a one-of-a-kind drawing made by me in tempera, gouache and colored pencils on 300 gsm. cardboard. The drawing was fixed with professional spray varnish for gouache drawings for preservation. The image is signed by hand on the front side. Not framed. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
