About The Artwork

I started the sketch for this painting at an earlier date, and this year returned to it to work out, recreate and complete my concept for this specific work. This finished work entitled ‘3 Dimensions of Life,’ describes a painted surface divided into 3 sections. The first section, starting at the left conceptually depicts in the first half, the possible start of one’s life, unfettered, fresh, pure, intact, moving upward gradually exposing an under layer of biological family and social history. The blue surface very slowly peels away, as if with one’s evolving age and experience, is transforming in texture and early on mirroring the underlying impact of the individual’s positive, or adverse background and experiences. Moving on to the middle zone, the fully exposed underground painted surface and texture reveal the individual in their authentic real state, whatever that happens to be for that unique person. In the 3rd full section on the right, the work exposes a more continuous flow of a blue painted surface with intermittent visual details of the densely painted under layer that resurface. This section, represents the more familiar status of an individual, juggling their self- constructed façade, appearance, or outer presentation that one has acquired, shaped and adapted for personal survival with the echoes and remnants of their individual identity framed and cultivated by their family, social, ethnic, racial, religious affiliation, history, etc., etc. All the philosophical, conceptual descriptions I have presented above, are baked into the intention of this artwork, which is highlighted by a surface that is colorful, dramatic, confrontational, textured, densely painted, with circular painted shapes that are freely and calculatingly placed on the surface, symbolizing the passing or peeling away of time, gathering of information, knowledge, experiences, attitudes, memories, etc.
