This painting documents a 150 year old oak tree with 3' girth that suddenly split open after a heavy storm, but was not apparently hit by lightning. It had rained briefly before the tree fell, but there had been a very strong storm the day before. The tree was not diseased, but had become very heavy from rain and summer growth. It was a majestic tree.
