AMBITION (BANANAMITE) Painting

Oil on canvas 120x90x4cm Today I remembered an internship selection process I did for a multinational company, one of those very boring and long that only an HR with time to spare does. I went to the last stage, but I didn't pass. I later learned, don't ask me how, that the reason I didn't get the job was that I didn't appear to be "ambitious". I think that at least they got it right. Incredibly, at 20 years old I was anything but ambitious. Whatever came was sadly "ok" and befitting my undeniably victimistic attitude at the time. The fact is that ambition is perhaps something that is still very poorly understood. Many confuse, for example, with greed. But what would become of us without ambition? A colleague of mine who tends to relate almost everything to money says that only people without money are ambitious. Whoever has the financial part "resolved" does not talk about "ambition". But do ambitious people need to talk about ambition or do they simply go after what they want? Does Jeff Bezos have no more ambition in his life? Of course, being financially equalized solves a lot of our problems and that the lack of $ makes most vdd move, but in my opinion, ambition is not (just) about that. It's about having a bearing on whatever you do. It's having the least reason (not necessarily rational) to wake up in the morning. It's not even a matter of purpose (which has already become an almost tawdry word), it's more a matter of lust for making things happen. Maybe it's a state of mind, the pepper that descends like that fire that burns you if you stand still, but which can be converted into energy if set in motion. As much as ambition can also be confused with desire - after all the two seem to be like the horizon line that always recedes the closer we get - I believe that being ambitious, as opposed to just wishing, doesn't drain our life energy - perhaps the even stimulate. And if it hadn't been for people who asked themselves "and what's next", maybe we would never have left the caves. Eric
