"Un tableau ne vit que par celui qui le regarde / A painting only lives by whoever looks at it." - Pablo Picasso "My work is a conglomerate of the ubiquitous counterposed with rare, precious, or divine elements." The "Anything Diptych" is the second part of a four part progression series, "Everything, Anything, Something, and Nothing." It features many layers, heavy texture, and original symbols. The single square with line through is the Quanta, or fractal- a building block of creation. The multiple squares with line through symbolize reality tied together by multiple by perception. The 24k Gold Crown is a symbol of legacy and a nod to Jean Michel Basquiat. The Charcoal lettering in back layer is pulled at random from Shakespeare. And the four crosses represent four of the nine Greek muses devoted to poetry.

Adam Martin Disbrow is an American Expressionist painter with national exposure. His art addresses issues of relationships, spirituality, sexuality, duality, beauty, relativism, nature, and dominion. His paintings involve many layers and often include symbols of Disbrow's own creation and of historical significance. Also discernible in his work are heavy textures, interpretive colors, language, and formal techniques which combine to make each painting a unique statement. His intention is to create a free space for the mind and eye to express itself honestly. "My work is a conglomerate of the ubiquitous counterposed with rare, precious, or divine elements. By approaching a new piece in a state of “no mind” I begin a work in an aleatoric way, adding specificity and objectivity as the piece develops so the work becomes a dynamic objective statement. My execution is recognizably influenced by Basquiat and Picasso, and more subtly by the work of Cy Twombly, Jasper Johns, Edvard Munch, Ha Chong Hyun, Pierre Soulages, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall. The paintings are a commentary on history and culture. They address current and ancient issues of relationship, spirituality, sexuality, beauty, divinity, relativism, nature, and dominion. Freedom, entropy, life, death, and time are key concepts of my work. I incorporate the use of symbols and language drawing upon classical and modern poetry and prose for inspiration. As the piece develops the language gets mostly covered. I love art because it is like a mirror that reveals deeper aspects of our nature by what we see and how it makes us feel.”
