Painting in an interior
This painting is my first large format painting inspired by living in sunny Florida after 10 years in snowy Switzerland.

The first thing that struck me arriving in Miami was the light and the colors. They really are food for the soul and eyes.

I love the tropical greens, the blues and turquoises of the pools and ocean captured in the background and how they contrast with the warm colors of the beach babes. I have always loved mixing yellow ochre and cadmium red and when contrasted with blue-greens, they just pop off the canvas, just like the colors stand out to me in Florida. Sunshine lifts spirits and the cheekiness of the Miami beach bums captures the playful, sexy holiday vibe felt.

I love how the creative process is a journey. I like to approach it with an open mind. I want to paint what inspires me in the moment. Otherwise, what is the point? Originally, this was a painting of New York that i had started but became frustrated with it and painted over it to create this one.

It started its transformation into green-like Mark Rothko, then towards a Gerhard Richter like abstract, then a Jean Michel Basquiat inspired style with the cocktail symbols, then a touch of my usual style with the nudes. The painting is mixed media on stretched canvas, mainly acrylics and some oil sticks. Dimensions: 200cm wide by 100cm high and 4cm deep.
