On a residency with the NO Collective in Baku, Azerbaijan I made a series of miniature paintings on found wood. They were all inspired by the animal 'illustrations' I found doing research both in Penzance's Morrab library and in Baku. There is always a narrative or a fable if you like in the Persian miniatures. Often animals are protesting their bad treatment at the hands of humans, I found one, from the 16th century which featured a bee, so there is nothing new about environmental concerns. Bear is painted in a naive manner maybe the original drawing was made by someone who had never seen a lion and was following a formally accepted formula. he is seen looking up from the side of a rocky outcrop. The gold frame is a contemporary find re-purposed in my studio in Penzance and glassless. Practically, I find the wooden supports for my work around Penzance, often on the docks and quays. Ready to hang with a brass mirror plate. To encompass my practice I use the word Humanimal. All my work is made with maximum attention to not causing any damage to the environment.
