The title “Bee Collecting Pollen” refers to the name of an app downloaded onto tourists’ phones after entering China. Despite this beautiful metaphor, there are real world consequences relating to personal freedom. The artist imagines the data collected from an individual and what this might visually look like. The painting was created by applying dots of acrylic to the canvas using a small round utensil. Some dots contain silver paint, so depending on where the viewer is standing, the color will change. The piece is quite engaging and has a very contemporary feel. It is stretched on frame and is easy to hang.
