About The Artwork
After spending time in a remote monastery near Abiqui, New Mexico I took my car and drove to De-Na-Zin or Bisti Badlands for a hike among the strange outerworldy landscape with its characteristic sandstone hoodoos. This painting / scenographic piece with cutout layers is made inspired by that hike. I want to explore perception of depth in my paintings that comes from layering and cutting out panels from poplar wood and mounting it in and outside the frame.
