Now in the forth decade of a career in the visual arts, Mike Hoover, a fine art painter and sculptor, traces his artistic heritage to great artistic traditions of the 20th century: painters of the Surrealist / Metaphysical schools and Japanese suiseki. Mr. Hoover has shown his works throughout north and central California from major north coast art centers to established wine country sites in the central valley, and several venues located in the Stockton, California region. He now resides in Pennsylvania State and is a celebrated member of the Transit Art Gallery (TAG) located in Oil City, PA. Mr. Hoover attended the University of Washington in the 1960’s, with special studies in the poetry of John Milton and Wallace Stevens. He began painting with encaustic some thirty years ago, and many of his works are part of national and international collections. Since 2005, in addition to completing dozens of paintings and sculptures, Mr. Hoover has acted as an administrator and chair to several arts organizations and scheduled events. Born and raised in the American northwest, Mr. Hoover has never resided in any one area for more than twelve years. He is currently owned by volunteer cats named Nick and Edna and is tending his garden, including building a fence and custom lawn furniture.
