About The Artwork

I painted "Blue Bowl on Oriental Tray" at a time when I was doing mostly representational work. This is from a series of small, intimate still life paintings. The colours of this paintings are harmonious and warm. On a Chinese hand-painted tray sits a blue-and-white porcelain bowl filled with red and green grapes and an orange. The black edge of the tray encircles the grouping. The tray's painted flower echoes the colour and shape of the scarlet geraniums growing in the background. The repeating roundnesses of the fruits and the varied harmonic colours in the painting create a rhythmic balance to the composition. This is an original, signed artwork. The mediums are watercolour and gouache on shikishi board (an artists paper board traditionally used in Japan for painting and calligraphy). The shikishi has a gold-paper border, which shows in the image. The painting is mounted in a white double mat enclosed in a simple gilded wood frame (the gilding is good quality imitation gold). A hanging wire is attached to the back of the piece. The painting will come to you ready for wall display. These small still lifes look great displayed together as a group, or singly. The dimensions of the painting itself are 4.68”H x 5.28”W x .79"D. With the double mat and frame, the dimensions of the artwork are 12.6"H x 12.25”W x .75"D.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been involved in visual arts, especially painting, all my life. My current work is semi-abstract and spontaneous, using a variety of mediums--paints, inks, pencils, coloured papers, textiles and found materials of all kinds--to explore the effects of line, colour and the expressive fluidity of paint. I am inspired by traditional brush calligraphy and its free expression as art. Exploring gestures of brush and ink on paper as a meditative discipline grounds my work and opens to infinite possibilities. I prefer working spontaneously, which allows something fresh and unexpected to come through. MEDIUMS USED I work in a variety of visual art mediums, including gouache, watercolours, sumi ink, acrylics, collage, coloured and printed papers, fabrics, recycled materials and mixed media.
