BSA A65 Lightning 1973 Painting

Contemporary landscape is part of a series of motorcycles beginning with three British V Twins. (see above). The skies and subject matter are changed with each painting, the ground is always the same. They can be aligned with the horizon into a single display. The subject is more akin to drawing board and ink and presents specific challenges to the Oil Painter. Des says I checked out paintings on his Saatchi website and was immediately struck by his technical proficiency. I am an admirer of the Pre-Raphaelites and hyper realism so Shaun’s series of motorbike pictures resonated with me on that level. He has a talent for creating an image that draws the eye to the details of the machine and because the background is not overly fussy one is able to contemplate the true ability of the painter. He is not just demonstrating his own talent as an artist but also celebrating the design and craftsmanship of these wonderful two wheeled machines. Each bike has its own unique character and somehow Shaun has managed to not only capture this in paint but also offer it in his own inimitable style
