About The Artwork

This piece was created in a barn on the island of Öland. Its inspiration comes from movement and the joy and blending of colours. I had a huge built up need of expressing myself when this piece came to be and in the safe, beautiful environment, surrounded by fields and the sea, this need was free to express itself. Underneath is a chaos of colours, a multitude of different voices, and as a last layer there is a large, comforting, swooping line of white paint. The white swoop both calms the voices underneath, it calms each different colour and voice, and at the same time it helps them find their inner strength and beauty. It both calms and sets in motion. As you can see in the detailed pictures there are rocks, flowers and glitter rocks on the surface. The flowers are degrading with time and this is an intentional part of the process. With degradation and handling parts of the flowers do come off, which I view as a part of the piece. My suggested way of hanging is by simply taping it onto a brightly coloured wall (see picture for exemple above). The piece is not framed or mounted onto stretcher bars. Would you wish to mount it onto stretcher bars or frame it in some way you are obviously free to do so ☺

I am interested in an expansion of the mind and being through art. I build my pieces on layers. I create layers and paint them over. Sometimes I will scratch or tear out parts of the old layers to make them visible again. Layers are like chapters in a persons life. We build our lives, creating, filling the canvas with life and beauty. At certain points in life we need to paint it all over to be able to start a new chapter, no matter how much beauty we’ve attained or created in the present layer. We need to paint it over to be able to grow. In a finished artwork all the layers are there underneath, even the ones you cannot see. It is an organic process. To me art making is more about the process and less about the product. In art I attempt to make something intangible (the process) into something material (the painting). This can feel or seem like a paradox in itself. The process of the art will continue once I am finished with my painting. It continues on the wall where it is hung, sending out inspiration or energy, it continues inside the person who views it, evoking thoughts and feelings. Sometimes the process continues with me destroying, burying or burning the piece or hiding it in a cupboard for years. (These are obviously not the pieces you will view here ;) The point is that when the process is in focus rather than the product, the process will continue long after the last brushstroke. My work comes from the body. I channel energies and they flow out onto the canvas. Using unconventional methods, mixing both acrylic, oil, pastel, ink, spit, pieces of dirt or vegetation, anything in mixed media. The process of the body and the process of nature are key elements in my process.
