This painting--and its companion piece--began as a collage of business cards, newspaper clippings from the New York Times, and Scripture passages, including the Gospel of Matthew which says "A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." The collage was mounted on canvas and then overpainted in acrylic and oil in a palette of blues, with black and white, and the proportions of the composition mirror a skyscraper. The painting has been given a satin varnish for protection, and hanging hardware is already installed.

I'm interested in the language of abstraction, and I often use collage or multiple layers of paint to express multiple layers of experience. I work in oils, cold wax, watercolor, and sometimes alcohol inks, allowing the strengths of each medium to contribute to the overall expression of the piece. My work appears in private collections throughout the country.
