Inspired by Art Deco motifs, this mixes crisp geometry and organic elements. It works vertically or horizontally. The texture ranges from matte to metallic so it changes color according to the angle of the viewer.
A second composition appears when the lights go out due to strontium aluminate and calcium sulfide in the paints- child-safe light absorbing minerals. The blue and green glow 10 to 20 hours after exposure to any visible light, while the red calcium sulfide glow fades away quickly. These minerals will continue to be "excitable" (the scientific term) for decades.

About The Artwork

Inspired by Art Deco motifs, this mixes geometric and organic elements. The title is a fanciful reference to the Art Deco era when I imagine gracious social gatherings for tea. The textures range from matte to metallic so the painting changes according to the angle of the viewer. A second composition appears when the lights go out from light-absorbing minerals- strontium aluminate doped with traces of europium and dysprosium (blue, green, and aqua), and calcium sulfide (the red.) I make the glowing pigments myself for maximum luminance. Excited by any visible light, they glow for 10 or more hours (except for the red which fades away in seconds.) Rechargeable up to 50 years. OSHA-rated toy safe. 30 times brighter than plastic ceiling stars (6000 millicandéla versus 320 mcd). YouTube video of the painting being made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj9C-iwPMCI

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The driving force of my art is curiosity. Each piece begins with the question “What if?” What if I use these colors, textures, materials, techniques, or objects together? Each work is a surprise package I get to slowly open. I study art, and in my head I divide the field between decorative art that people want in their homes, which is great, and “arty” art that is innovative, original, and sometimes gallery-worthy. I often fail but generally aim for the elusive territory between the two- attempting to create things pleasing to the eye that people might want to live with, while pushing out boundaries for both everyday and more sophisticated art lovers. A unique recurring feature of most of my work is the inclusion of photoluminescent strontium aluminate doped with rare earths. I make the pigments myself for maximum luminance. The works are thereby two compositions, one by day and a second, rather magical composition that appears at night. I employ super-bright child-safe minerals that shed light for 10 to 20 hours after exposure to any visible light, and that continue to be “re-excitable” for decades. I do not have a single style because my relentless curiosity leads me in many directions as I constantly explore new materials, tools, techniques, and “What if?” questions.
