About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic and mixed media on gallery wrapped archival canvas with back brace, all edges painted, no staples, ready for display. Many incarnations later I finally got it ! Took me awhile to figure this one out. I knew I wanted to go in a color field direction, but I did not have my composition figured out or my palette. After much tinkering I was able to come to a satisfactory conclusion. I had some new, pinkish, fleshtone acrylic paint, and that seemed like the background. Originally I wanted to go very dark, but instead I went very bright and color orientated. That idea seemed to work. Mark making and gouging overtook me near the final stage. Then the overall composition came together, and it looked like the bottom portion was being crushed, so there was the title. Of course that first generation of Abstract Expressionists are always at the forefront of my mind.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history, on my own. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner as well. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The painting process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. As I paint, color and material are combined on the canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
